Robinson White are accredited Assessors for the Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH). As such, we are able to undertake assessments of new build dwellings against the Code during the design and construction of new developments.
The Code for Sustainable Homes was introduced by the Government to improve the overall sustainability of new homes by setting a national standard within which houses are designed and constructed homes to high environmental standards and offers a tool for developers to differentiate themselves within the market.
The CfSH has been introduced as a single national standard to be used in the design and construction of new homes in England, measuring the sustainability of every new dwelling against nine key areas.
- Energy or carbon efficiency (CO2)
- Water efficiency
- Materials
- Surface water management
- Site and household waste management
- Use of materials
- Pollution
- Health and well being
- Site and household management
- Ecology
The CfSH gives homebuyers and tenants confidence about the environmental impact on their home and is potential running codes.
Every new build home must be assessed against the Code with a certificate inserted within the Home Information Pack (HIP). The Code uses a rating system of 1 to 6 levels to illustrate the sustainability of a dwelling. Current government targets suggest that all new homes will need to 6 level rating by 2016 (i.e. zero carbon).
